Borrowing (Issue/Return) facilities are available from 9.10 AM. – 4.50 PM.
The following categories of persons shall be allowed admission to the library
(a) All members of the SILT (Staff and Students)
(b) Any other person with the permission of the HOD/Director/Librarian
(c) Provided that the right of admission shall be denied to a person if in the opinion of the HOD/Director/Librarian, he/she is:
Persons acquiring right of the admission as under rule 2. above, before entering/leaving the library hall shall:
(a) Sign a register (gate register) specially provided for the purpose by legibly entering all the columns. The signature shall ensure that the person concerned agrees to abide by the rule and regulations of the library.
(b) Deposit all personal belongings; such as attach case, umbrella, files, private book (s), etc. at the property counter of the library. He/She can take only one notebook or white paper inside the library.
The following categories of persons shall become members of the SILT Library by default:
(a) All the Students of SILT (b) All the regular Non-Teaching Staff of SILT with the permission of HOD/Director (c) All regular Teaching Staff of SILT (d) All the Guest Faculties of SILT with the permission of HOD/Director. Research scholars should be recommended both by the respective research guide and the HOD/Director of the School. Provisional registration will not be considered for Library Membership.
(a) The privilege of borrowing books from the library is restricted to the members only.
(b) Each member will have Reader’s Ticket according to the category to which he/she belongs to.
(c) The Reader’s Ticket is not transferable.
(d) Members must come to the library personally and produce his / her Borrower Card at the issue counter to take the books on loan (issue/renewal).
(e) Membership of a student shall remain valid till he/she remains in the role of the College.
(f) The librarian may recall any book from the member at any time.
(g) Reference Books, Closed Reference Books, CDs, Newspapers, Periodicals, Question Papers, Dissertations / Projects / Theses etc. will not be issued.
Members can borrow books by using the reader’s ticket. Readers tickets are not transferable.

Books, if they are not reserved, can be renewed for a further period of 25 days by bringing the books to the library (only 1 renewal is allowed). The librarian can cut off the renewal date at any stage of the book issue.
Heavily reserved books are lent only for 10 days, no renewal will be allowed.
Books not available on the shelves as well as the latest arrivals on the display may be reserved through the Online catalogue by signing in. If the reserved book is available in the library it will be kept only for 2 days (readers should have to inquire about the availability of the books) and then it will pass to the next user in the reservation queue.
A separate collection of Book Bank is kept in the library with the financial aid (for purchasing books and shelves) of the District Development Office for Scheduled Castes, Kottayam. These books are issued only to eligible students.
All library members should collect ‘No Dues Certificate’ from the SILT Library and University Library before getting Hall Ticket for the final University Examination / TC / Submission of Thesis / Leaving the Institution / Retirement, whichever is earlier. No Dues Certificate may be issued to members only on surrendering all the readers ticket issued (if lost you have to pay Rs.50/- for each card).
Books returned after the due date, the fine will be charged at the rate of Rs.1/day. Pay the fine at the circulation counter at the time of return/renewal and collect the receipt for the same.
The library has a photocopy service. For taking the photocopies, readers should have to fill up the details in the Photocopy register and return the material to the library immediately. No documents will not be given outside for taking photocopies.
(a) Personal belongings such as books, bags, cases, folders, printed materials, covers, projects/dissertations, issued books, food items, etc. must be left at the property counter. However, the library will not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to personal property left on an in its premises. If you find difficulty in using the library or in locating any specific information, contact our staff at the Reference desk.
(b) Silence is must inside the library. Discussions, combined study and other collective activities that make noise shall be avoided always.
(c) Mobile phones should be kept silent inside the library.
(d) Member shall not smoke or spite in any part of the library.
(e) While browsing books, no book should be replaced by the user themselves.
(f) Books once picked out from the stack should be left in the reading table if not issued out.
(g) Upon any infringement of the library rules, members shall forfeit privileges of admission and membership of the library
(h) The Director reserves the right to suspend or delinquent membership of any member found misbehaving, abusing the library staff, or behaving in an indecent manner.
(i) Always use the Online Library Catalogue (OPAC) for searching the books.
